Desk Report:
World-renowned artificial intelligence company OpenAI is about to revolutionize the technology world. The company recently signed an agreement with Luxshare, the company that connects Apple’s iPhone and AirPods. According to the agreement, Luxshare will be responsible for producing a new device from OpenAI. This information was reported by the US-based media The Information.
According to the report, the device is still in the prototype stage. It is a pocket-sized, context-aware device that will work directly with OpenAI’s powerful artificial intelligence model.
Through this device, OpenAI wants to bring artificial intelligence to people without relying on smartphones or traditional computers. The company aims to directly compete with big technology companies like Apple, Samsung, and Google with this new type of AI device.
Not only Luxshare, OpenAI has also contacted another Chinese manufacturer, Goertek. Goertek mainly makes various components of Apple‘s AirPods, HomePod and Apple Watch. OpenAI wants Goertek to provide various important components, including speaker modules, for their devices.
Analysts consider this project to be OpenAI’s biggest and boldest initiative. Because it is their first attempt to make specific hardware, where they do not have to rely on smartphones or PCs as before.
In addition, a few months ago, OpenAI bought the hardware startup ‘IO Products’ of Jony Ive, the famous designer of the iPhone, for $ 6.5 billion. At that time, it was announced that Jony Ive and his former Apple design team would join OpenAI and create a new generation of AI-based consumer hardware.
Jony Ive is currently in charge of the creative leadership of this project. Under him, OpenAI plans to launch the first device in 2026.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes that they can sell more than 100 million units of the AI device.
